Thomas "Tom" Franklin Barnes

Thomas “Tom” Franklin Barnes, 88, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at his residence. He was born January 3, 1932 in Catawba, WV, son of the late William “Ed” and Mamie Swisher Barnes.

Tom served his country in the United States Navy during the Korea War.  He owned Barnes Brothers Construction with his brother ED and they built and plastered many homes in Fairmont over the years. His hobbies were fishing, bowling, playing cards, traveling, listening to WVU games on the radio, and visiting Smoke Hole Caverns.  

Tom is survived by one daughter, Allyson Cavrich and companion Lee Glover; three grandchildren, Stevie Cavrich, Courtney Bock, Tabitha Lafferre and John; five great grandchildren, Lindsey, Bella, Liam, Sidney and Rosalie; three sisters, Boonie Spadaro of Miami, Fla., Mary Griffith of Parkersburg, and Lila Bosley and Bob of White Hall; special niece, Ruthie Barnes; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Johnson Barnes on December 13, 2018; one son, Mark Barnes; and one brother and wife, John “Ed” E Barnes and Deanie; brothers-in-law, Robert Spadaro and Tom Griffith.

A graveside service will be held at the WV National Cemetery at a later date with full military honors. Online condolences may be sent to www.affordablefuneralandcremationcenter.com.
