Ronald “Ron” James Varney, 77, of Fairview, WV, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 25, 2021, surrounded by his family and friends at home. Second Corinthians 5:8. To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.
Ron was born on December 28, 1943, in Hoult, WV, son of the late Ralph and Edna Hoult Varney. He was the loving husband of Charlotte, whom he married on June 5, 1981.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School. Upon graduation, he was employed by Mon Power, Owens Illinois, C&P Telephone, Bell Atlantic, and retired from Verizon after twenty-six years.
On Easter Sunday, 1983, he was introduced to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by his friend Bennie Moran, pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Morgantown. He served as children’s church director for 20 years at Victory Baptist Church, Fairmont, and has attended Monongah Baptist Church for the past 16 years.
He enjoyed West Virginia Mountaineer sports, taking road trips, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Charlotte, he is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Moore (wife Stephanie), Jonathan Varney (wife Heather), Ron (RJ) Varney of North Dakota; his son Michael Moore (wife Melissa) of Virginia; his son William Varney, and his daughter Brittany Varney of Fairview, West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Varney of Fairmont.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, April 28, at 3 PM at Monongah Baptist Church. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
