Maria Anne Munro, 66, of Wheeling, WV, died peacefully in the presence of family on December 8 at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, WV. Maria had battled three bouts of cancer that was first diagnosed in 1995, and she was the among the longest-surviving oncology patients in her doctors’ experience.
Maria was born in Bluefield, WV, and spent her childhood in that state, Virginia and Ohio. As a young woman, she relocated to coastal Washington state, the place she loved the most. She worked many years as a fine-dining server in the Bellingham area. With her many friends, Maria enjoyed hiking, camping, holding gatherings with homemade meals and following tours by the Grateful Dead.
Maria was preceded in death by her loving parents, Albert R. and Evelyn S. Munro. She is survived by an older brother, Stephen, of Silver Spring, MD, and a younger sister, Terese, of Cincinnati, OH. A private family memorial service will take place in 2023. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Alley Cat Allies or another charity devoted to animal welfare.
